|
8/24/2009 4:00 p.m. |
Much like the child's game, lawyers are switching firms at a furious pace. Whether its one lawyer, a practice group or a merger, getting attorneys and all of their data into your firm is a challenge. The IT, records and conflicts departments must all work together to have a successful transition. How do you balance the firm wanting to bring a partner in with the firm's risk management needs? What do you do with materials for clients that are not coming to your firm? How do you review electronic material that may be owned by the previous firm? What are the ramifications of bringing in international attorneys? These questions and others will be answered. |

We discuss best practices and how they apply to you based on the answers to these questions: Are all the necessary groups communicating and ensuring the new federal rules are followed? How do you get lawyers to comply with requests if you don't have a centralized method to gather all responsive materials? How do you find and collect documents belonging to lawyers who have left the firm? Do the proper groups know where all the data is housed? How do you document the process you follow? What are the strategies for ensuring people are not creating their own spaces of data? A helpful checklist based on best practices will be provided. Please bring any questions you have! |
