The Poor Man's IT Toolkit: Open Source and Free Tools for Troubleshooting Your Desktop 8/26/2009 9:00 a.m.

Your Managing partner turns to you and says, “I am getting an error that says the partition is not found, fix it!" Someone hands you a laptop with a smashed screen and tells you they need several files from it…but “we don’t know the password.” Where do you start when you get the “blue screen of death” and a reimage isn’t an option? We highlight creative, powerful and, more importantly, free tools available in the SystemRescueCD, an open source product for administering and supporting the desktop PC. We provide the toolbox; you bring your wits, as this hands-on session starts out with a broken PC that you will bring back to life.
